Inclusion and Diversity

The Program seeks to promote equal opportunities and access, inclusion, diversity and fairness across all its actions. This Strategy aims to help address the barriers different target groups may face in accessing such opportunities within Europe and beyond.

The disability could be two types: a medical and a social one:

  • Medical model focuses on the person's medical condition - illness or injury - which is the direct cause of their disability and may have an impact on their quality of life.

  • Social model focuses on the barriers created by society. Those may be physical or social restrictions preventing the development or use of the abilities - physical, social or professional - that each individual needs to thrive.

Participation in democratic life, common values and civic engagement

In the field of youth EU Youth Strategy and the EU Youth Goals enhance the participation of young people in each of the actions of the Program by engaging through formal or non-formal learning activities. The focus is put on raising awareness of and understanding the European Union context, notably as regards the common EU values, the principles of unity and diversity, as well as their social, cultural and historical heritage.

Creating a space of communion where young people with and without disabilities can work and collaborate, it gives them the opportunity to better understand communion, the needs of others and to become more aware both at the Community and European level of the needs of others.
